Solar PV and SEAI Grants:
a Sustainable Solution for Lower Energy Bills

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is committed to making renewable energy accessible and affordable for households and businesses across the Republic of Ireland. To encourage the adoption of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, the SEAI provides a range of grants and incentives to help offset the upfront cost of installation.

One such program is the Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant, a government-funded support scheme that assists residents and homeowners in installing an electric vehicle charge point on their property. This program provides a grant of up to €600 towards the purchase and installation of a home charger unit, making it easier and more affordable for homeowners to make the switch to sustainable energy solutions.

At Solis Green Energy, we are committed to helping our customers take advantage of the SEAI grants available in the Republic of Ireland. Our team of experts will guide you through the process of applying for the grants and help you to obtain the funding you need to install your Solar PV System.

How much does it cost to install an EV charger at home?

The cost of installing an EV charger at home can vary depending on several factors such as the type of charger, location, and electrical infrastructure. However, the government-funded Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant can provide up to €600 towards the purchase and installation of a home charger unit, making it more affordable for homeowners to switch to electric.

What type of EV chargers are available for home installation?

There are two types of EV chargers for home installation: tethered and untethered. Tethered chargers have a cable permanently attached to the unit, while untethered chargers require a separate cable to be plugged in. Home EV chargers typically have a capacity of 7kW or 22kW.

Can I install an EV charger myself?

If you're considering installing an EV charger, it's important to note that the Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant, a government-funded support scheme, is available to assist residents and homeowners with the purchase and installation of a home charger unit. However, to be eligible for the grant, the installation must be carried out by a registered installer. DIY installations are not eligible for the grant. It's important to have a qualified and experienced installer carry out the installation to ensure it's done correctly and safely.

Do I need a special electrical outlet to charge my EV at home?

Yes, an EV charger requires a dedicated electrical circuit and a specialised outlet that is rated for the charger's power output. A qualified electrician can install the appropriate outlet and ensure that your electrical infrastructure can safely support the charger.
